Overview

Every Chester's piece follows a meticulously orchestrated five-stage journey that transforms raw materials into furniture of enduring beauty and uncompromising quality. Beginning with the selection of premium Indian hardwoods, our process moves through a precision framework
construction, masterful upholstery execution, rigorous quality assurance, and comprehensive post-purchase care.

All of Chester's production takes place within our dedicated workshops in Peenya, Bangalore. Here, traditional European craftsmanship meets Indian artistry, creating furniture that honours both heritage and innovation.

OUR CARPENTRY:

Many of our carpenters come from across India and have worked for usfor decades, passing on the same skills that were acquired by our original team who trained in Europe. Beneath the exterior upholstery of ourfurniture, we use a carefully applied combination ofsolid steam beech and Canadian pine.

We have refined this combination over decades, ensuring that the wood we use for each piece of the frame is suitable for its role and the load it will carry. All the visible frames of a Chester’s piece are made from Burma teak. We lacquer this wood to provide a protective layer and a flawless finish in a stain of your choice.

OUR LEATHER

We source our hides from Central and Western Europe, selecting only those that meet our exacting standards. They are processed in our two modern tanneries in Tamil Nadu, where skilled tanners use advanced technology and environmentally safe chemicals to transform each salted hide into finished leather over several weeks.

Our shadow leather is hand-dyed one piece at a time, a technique also applied to our Signature Range as a final step after the leather is already fitted to the frame. This process, perfected over more than 30 years, produces a depth of colour and texture that continues to enrich with time and use.

OUR DEEP BUTTONING PROCESS:

Deep buttoning is more than a decorative signature; it is a mark of structural integrity and lasting craftsmanship. Perfected over decades of producing authentic Chesterfield pieces, the technique delivers both strength and enduring beauty. Each button is secured with waxed, high-strength yarn that passes through the entire frame, anchoring it to the core structure.

This precise, hand-driven process ensures the buttons retain their tension and position, even as the furniture flexes and settles over years of use. The result is a piece that offers the same reliability as it does visual character, built to perform and to last for generations.

FINISHING:

The detailing of a Chesters piece is the final touch in an authentically finished piece of design. Elements such as piping around the edge of a cushion offer both a soft, clean edge, but also provide additional strength to areas ofthe piece which see the mostfriction and tension.

Our upholstery process combines German-engineered pneumatic machinery with hand-finishing techniques refined over generations. Each seam is sewn using reinforced lock-stitching at 8–10
stitches per inch, with tension carefully calibrated to allow for the natural expansion and contraction of leather.
